Quick Update


After making my chicken in a crock pot recipe, I made chicken broth from all the left over juice/drippings and bones. All for free! Or at least that’s what it felt like.

Here’s how…

Take out the chicken when it’s done cooking. Take the meat off the bones and add 5 cups of water and the bones (and skin too if you don’t eat that) and turn the crock pot back on low and leave it on overnight. The next day, strain out the stuff and pour the stock into a container (or containers, as I did)…


And put it in the fridge…

And after a few hours or a day, or whenever you feel like it (because honestly I haven’t done it yet…) you’ll be able to easily scrape off the layer of fat on top….


And you’ll be left with about 50 ounces of homemade broth with little fat and NO PRESERVATIVES! (and if you didn’t add salt, no sodium!!). Yay you!!

I really suggest everyone do this! We had delicious chicken that just fell off the bone the first night, made homemade healthy broth overnight, I made buffalo chicken sandwiches with some leftover chicken last night, and we still have a bunch leftover (enough for another whole dinner!!) all out of a $4 chicken.

I don’t know about you, but I’m still impressed!!
